Whenever we do anything in Islamic sight, we need to think in advance about what we're going to do? Most things in Islam need to be taken care of. That's niyah (in Arabic, it is actually pronounced "Niyyath").
For example, if you are going to pray, then we have to mention it before praying.
1.which kind of namaz (farl [it's important to a Muslim person] or sunnah [it's not necessary but according to Muslim belief, proffet Muhammad was the best exemplar for Muslims, we follow proffet activity])
2.how many rakhat rakhats there are(for a Muslim there is 5 times needed to pray in a day, each prayer called by a different name, different rakhath and different timing (rakhath means each rakhath has several procedures)
3. pray for who (all Muslims pray to their god "ALLAH")
4.adaah or khalaah (present or past (you should mention that you pray for present or past ))
5. with an imam or mahmoom or alone
( -if you are the imam [for some prayer (eg:farl pray ) you can pray with a group, imam means you lead the prayer) then you say maghal mahmoomi ( with my group)
-if you are a mahmoomi (mahmoomi means some one leads your prayers, then you follow them), then you say maghal imam (with my leader)
-if you are praying alone, no need to say anything)
6. important these are all doing for you. That means you always say "I am doing".
Now, if you are praying asar (asar is 4 rakhaat), say , "I pray for Allah's in present 4 rakhat asr swalah in the direction of quiblah" (+with imam, +with mahmoomi)
in a bath for janaabath ( janabath means eg: after-sex, periods for women, release of semen for men, blood release after delivery, etc... You should the bath after these is called bath for janaabath)
Before you put water on your head, say "I bath for janabath"
That's very simple.
